Extienden el TPS para los Salvadorenos

Autoridades de los Estados Unidos aprobaron una nueva prórroga de 18 meses del programa Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS), que permite a los salvadoreños mantener una situación legal y un permiso de trabajo en ese país. El periodo de reinscripcion corre del 9 de Enero al 12 de Marzo del 2012.

El Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos (USCIS, por sus siglas en inglés), anunció que el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS, por sus siglas en inglés) extenderá el Estado Temporal Protegido, (TPS por sus siglas en inglés), para los nacionales de la fecha de expiración del 9 de marzo de 2012 hasta la nueva fecha del 9 de septiembre de 2013.

Bajo esta extensión, los salvadoreños con TPS en la actualidad son elegibles para reinscribirse y mantener su estatus por 18 meses más, siempre y cuando continúen siendo elegibles para el mismo.

Hay aproximadamente 217 mil nacionales de El Salvador que podrán registrase de nuevo. El TPS no aplica a salvadoreños que ingresaron a Estados Unidos después del 9 de marzo de 2001. La nueva extensión dará a los a los beneficiarios del TPS suficiente tiempo para volver a registrarse y recibir las EAD sin ninguna interrupción en su autorización de empleo.

La notificación del Registro Federal explica cómo los salvadoreños amparados por TPS y sus empleadores pueden determinar si una EAD ha sido extendida de forma automática.
